... bass from the reggae band Cane Spider. A short time later, Jordan asked Manu Pacanas to jump in on lead guitar. After recording a few demos Ian Silver decided that a rock band was not his thing and decided to bow out.
Later that summer, Hoku ran in to Tavis Kagawa who had just returned to Kauai after a failed stint with another band on the mainland. Although not initially interested, Hoku’s persistence paid off and Tavis ended up showing up for a few jam sessions. Realizing this was too good to pass up Tavis decided to join the band. With a new line up the band decided that they needed a new name. After a slew of randomness and less genius ideas the name Death By Starfish was settled upon. That coming October the band decided to go up to Oahu and play a few gigs with friends such as 50 Dollar Eights, Awry By Design, and Master of Oz. Playing their first show in Waikiki Halloween weekend was truly the birth of DBS.
Located on the west side of Kauai, DBS continues to wow crowds of all ages and backgrounds with their mix-up of rhythm changes, meaningful lyrics, and melodic driven vocals. A regular staple at most rock venues on Kauai the boys from DBS are always working to improve their sound and performances. Currently the band is working on their first full-length album and should be out soon. Stay tuned for more!
