... Morrow and Karen Eldrenkamp while taking private music lessons with Major Bryan Miller. In High School David studied with Greg Cunningham, Brian Dewald and Tom Bowling. He went on to major in Music Education at the University of Illinois where he studied classical trumpet extensively under Ray Sasaki, jazz studies with Tom Wirtel, and received in depth musical guidance in jazz performance/composition under Keith Javors. He also studied with Dr. Michael Ewald, and Ron Bridgewater. Dave went on to receive a Master’s Degree in Jazz Performance at Roosevelt University in Chicago studying under Rob Parton, Tito Carillo, Tom Garling, Mike Smith, Michael Raynor, and Scott Mason. Throughout the years David has had the privilege of studying with amazing educators and musicians.
His experience was enriched further sharing the stage with artists such as Wayne Shorter, Lew Soloff, Maria Schneider, Bobby Shew, Jon Patitucci, and Brian Blade as well as many others. While performing at various clubs and jam sessions, he had the opportunity to gain his "street training" from Chicago Jazz legends such as Von Freeman.
David teaches band, choir, and ukulele at Waimea Canyon Middle School on the island of Kauai. He performs trumpet, piano, voice, and the occasional ukulele tune.
David released his debut album entitled “Audience of One” which was nominated as a finalist for the Na Hoku award for "Jazz Album of the Year". It features Michael Ruff, Dean Taba, Abe Lagrimas Jr, and Tim Tsukiyama
